MICHELLE CARLSON
-Owner
-Assistant Instructor
-Master Scuba Diver
-PSI Cylinder Inspector

I was initiated into the wonderful world of diving by my husband Dan in Ely, Minnesota (my hometown) and took my Open Water class in November of 1999. In October of 2004 I became a Divemaster so I could assist with classes and in April of 2005, I achieved the Divemaster/Discover Scuba Diving Leader certification. My diving certifications also include Underwater Photography, Boat Diving, and Equipment Specialist, Drysuit Diver and Enriched Air Diver and I’ve just completed my Master Scuba Diver Certification as well as recently finishing my Assistant Instructor course. I’ve also completed the Professional Scuba Inspectors cylinder inspector course, so I will be able to do inspections as well as Dan.  I work full time at The Dive Depot doing the marketing, advertising, sales and all those things that go along with owning and operating a dive shop including schlepping tanks and wet equipment. We have a teenage son that loves diving and snorkeling and became certified Advanced Open Water this past summer.

My favorite dive destination has to be Cocoview Resort, Roatan Honduras.

I started diving in Hawaii while stationed at Pearl Harbor in the US Navy Submarine Fleet in 1991. I really enjoyed diving the west end of Oahu, especially at night when we would “hunt bugs.” I also got the opportunity to dive in Guam while in the Navy. After completing my service, I came home to Minnesota and started working at A & W Diving in Ely, MN. Here I fell in love with my wife Michelle and diving freshwater lakes. After completing my Instructor course in May 2000, I worked in Ely for two more summers while going to college at Bemidji State University (BSU). In 2001, Michelle and I decided to open The Dive Depot here in Bemidji. In November 2005, we opened our new location at 1615 Fern St NW in Bemidji. I am also a part-time instructor at BSU in the science department while I continue to work towards my Master’s Degree in Science Education.

Since becoming Open Water certified in 1995, and Instructor in 2005 I have logged over 250 dives with experience in night, wreck, deep, underwater photography, and EAN nitrox. Many of those dives have been in area lakes, including the Crosby/Ironton mine pits, Lake Superior, and numerous lakes in Cass, Hubbard and Beltrami counties. I have also enjoyed ocean diving in Maui, Hawaii, San Diego, Cozumel and Roatan, Honduras. Prior to getting married in August of 2001, my wife, Rachel, became a certified diver and we have enjoyed many of these destinations together. In 2002, I joined the Lakes Area Dive Team, which is a volunteer search and recovery team for Cass and Hubbard counties. In my travels and diving, the one thing that has made the trips so enjoyable were the divemasters and instructors. My ultimate goal as an instructor is to pass along the same enjoyment that I experience underwater to all those that I may be fortunate to dive with.

GREG MOEN
-Divemaster
-Discover Scuba Diving Leader

I was certified by Dan as an Open Water diver in June of 2002 and worked my way through the ranks to become a Divemaster/Discover Scuba Diving Leader in October of 2004. I have worked as a divemaster for the Dive Depot since that time. My logbook has 250 logged open water dives and I'm certified in Ice Diving, Dry Suit Diving and Emergency First Response CPR/AED/First Aid. I also carry a Wilderness First Aid certification. As a divemaster, I'm able to conduct tours for certified divers and conduct Discover Scuba programs for future divers interested in a Scuba experience as well as Scuba Review programs for divers who feel they need a "refresher" course in diving skills. If you are interested in any of these programs and would like to have a Divemaster at your service, please give the Dive Depot a call and they will put you on the schedule.

Since becoming open water certified in October of 2002 I’ve been hooked on diving.  I have continued my diving education by becoming a Divemaster in October of 2006.  I hope to continue on and become an Instructor. My certifications include, Drysuit, Equipment Specialist and Dive Rescue 1 Specialist.  I volunteer as a public safety diver with the Lakes Area Dive Team.  I am also a volunteer firefighter and First Responder.  Since I enjoy diving with new divers and veterans alike, I look forward to meeting and diving with you.

I have always been interested in diving but never took action until after I went snorkeling and rode in a submarine in the Grand Cayman’s. It was after these experiences that I told myself “I have to see more.”  I was certified as an Open Water diver in May of 2004 and completed my Divemaster course in July 2007.

I have dove in Roatan Honduras, St Thomas USVI, Lake Superior and numerous lakes in northern MN. I have logged close to 200 dives. I am certified as a boat diver, peak performance buoyancy, ice diver, dry suit and equipment specialist and I am eligible for Master Scuba Diver. I live in Holt, MN with my wife Carol.  I work for Arctic Cat as a senior technician. My weekends, in the summer, are spent in Bemidji enjoying the lakes.

My goal is to help people enjoy diving as much as I do.

I became interested in diving in 2004, while great white shark diving in South Africa. That summer I got open water certified through The Dive Depot and I am currently working my advanced open water certification. Other than diving and working at The Dive Depot I’m attending college at BSU for business management and opening a computer store in Walker.
