I was initiated into the wonderful world of diving by my husband Dan in Ely, Minnesota (my hometown) and took my first PADI course, in November of 1999. My thought then was, if I want to see Dan at all, I better get certified to dive. Since that initial certification I have become a PADI Assistant Instructor and Owner of The Dive Depot. I work mostly full time at the store where you will find me doing advertising, marketing, sales and even schlepping tanks. I became a PSI cylinder inspector years ago and do visual inspections on breathing air tank cylinders.

I’m here to encourage all women to try to scuba dive! Learn it and love it!

My favorite place to travel to, to dive is still defiantly Roatan Honduras at Cocoview Resort AND I can never forget Burntside Lake in my hometown of Ely Minnesota.

I started diving in Hawaii while stationed at Pearl Harbor in the US Navy Submarine Fleet in 1991. I really enjoyed diving the west end of Oahu, especially at night when we would “hunt bugs.” I also got the opportunity to dive in Guam while in the Navy. After completing my service, I came home to Minnesota and started working at A & W Diving in Ely, MN. Here I fell in love with my wife Michelle and diving freshwater lakes. After completing my Instructor course in May 2000, I worked in Ely for two more summers while going to college at Bemidji State University (BSU). In 2001, Michelle and I decided to open The Dive Depot here in Bemidji. In November 2005, we opened our new location at 1615 Fern St NW in Bemidji. I am also a part-time instructor at BSU in the science department while I continue to work towards my Master’s Degree in Science Education.

Since becoming open water certified in October of 2002 I’ve been hooked on diving.  I have continued my diving education by becoming a Divemaster in October of 2006.  I hope to continue on and become an Instructor. My certifications include, Drysuit, Equipment Specialist and Dive Rescue 1 Specialist.  I volunteer as a public safety diver with the Lakes Area Dive Team.  I am also a volunteer firefighter and First Responder.  Since I enjoy diving with new divers and veterans alike, I look forward to meeting and diving with you.

I was certified as an open water diver by the Dive Depot in 2004 and have been a Divemaster with them since 2007 assisting with pool sessions and open water dives. I have multiple certifications for Master Scuba Diver.  My diving has taken me to some special places. Roatan, St. Thomas, Cozumel, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, three of the Great Lakes, many lakes and mine pits in MN. Each place is unique to the different kinds of diving and things to see.  Lots of my best dives have been right here in Minnesota.
